DRBL-Winroll is an open-source Windows configuration tool designed to help system administrators manage Windows client machines within a DRBL (Diskless Remote Boot in Linux) and Clonezilla SE (Server Edition) network deployment environment.
When mass-deploying a Windows operating system image to dozens of computers simultaneously over a local network, all machines initially wake up as exact identical copies. This causes network conflicts due to identical identities. DRBL-Winroll solves this problem by enabling those Windows clients to securely receive and execute automation commands from the central Linux-based DRBL server. Core Features
Identity Randomization: Automatically modifies the unique Windows Security Identifier (SID), preventing duplication conflicts on the local network.
Automatic Hostname Management: Changes the machine’s hostname (computer name) programmatically based on server assignments so every computer has a unique identifier.
Network and Workgroup Adjustment: Configures local Windows network adapters, sets IP configurations, and adjusts the local “Workgroup” name instantly.
Active Directory Integration: Provides an automated mechanism to bind newly cloned Windows machines straight into a corporate Active Directory (AD) domain.
Server Command Execution: Installs as a lightweight service or agent on Windows, allowing it to safely accept and execute background configuration scripts pushed directly from the DRBL server. Primary Use Case
It is heavily utilized in school computer labs, internet cafes, and corporate IT environments alongside Clonezilla. After Clonezilla broadcasts a single baseline Windows image to 50 computers simultaneously, DRBL-Winroll kicks in during the first boot sequence to seamlessly change the network configurations without requiring manual interaction at each desk. System & Licensing Details
Supported Systems: It natively supports legacy Windows environments ranging from Windows 2000, XP, and Vista up through Windows 7.
Licensing: It is fully open-source and released under the GNU GPL (General Public License).
Availability: Binaries and toolkits can be reviewed and downloaded via the official DRBL-Winroll Project Page or its legacy SourceForge Repository.
