Because “titles” can refer to several different things, 1. Personal & Social Titles (Honorifics)
These are terms of address placed before a person’s name to signify gender, marital status, age, or professional status.
Mr. (Mister): Used for any adult male, regardless of marital status.
Ms. (Mizz): Used for adult women when marital status is either unknown or irrelevant. Mrs. (Missus): Used for a married woman.
Miss: Traditionally used for an unmarried woman or a young girl.
Mx. (Mix): A gender-neutral title for individuals who do not wish to be identified by gender. Master: Used for boys under the age of 13.
Dr. (Doctor) & Prof. (Professor): Professional or academic titles earned through degrees or academic rank. 2. Professional & Job Titles
These titles indicate a person’s role, rank, or authority within an organization.
Corporate & Executive: Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Managing Director (MD), Vice President (VP).
Academic & Scientific: Professor, Lecturer, Research Fellow, Principal Investigator.
Governmental & Legal: Judge, Senator, Mayor, Attorney at Law. Military & Service: Captain, Sergeant, Officer, Detective. 3. Titles of Nobility & Royalty
These titles signify a high rank in society, many of which are historically hereditary.
